According to a press release gathered by Topup9ja from the palace of
Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Akanbi stated that children's day celebration
was an age-long tradition which had been abandoned despite the
positive impact such day have had in the lives of children in those
days.

The statement reads, "An age-long but abandoned tradition of Iwoland
is the public celebration of our children on the 27th of May,
annually. This was a process I passed through and which largely
influenced the character I grew up to become. To this end, I have
decided to revive the annual children's day celebrations."

Topup9ja was also informed that the 2016 Children's day celebration
is design to incorporate all pupils in the federal constituency.
"Children's Day 2016 Celebrations, which will involve pupils and
students from Ayedire, Iwo and Olaoluwa Local Government Areas, will
be held on 27 May 2016. Activities lined up to celebrate the day will
include, but not limited, to the following;

The statements also highlighted the programmes slated for the day which are;

1. March Past for primary and secondary schools which will take place
within the premises of Bowen University,
2. Aptitude tests/quiz competitions for primary and secondary school students,
3. Oluwo children's picnic,
4. Award of trophies for winners of march past competition, and
5. Special awards for winners of the aptitude test competition."

The programme is harp on the belief of what the late freedom fighter
Nelson Mandela asserted that "There can be no keener revelation of a
society's soul than the way it treats its children. Our children are
the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a
nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our
national wealth who care for and protect our people."

It would be recalled that the Oba Akanbi had earlier go on an
educational tour to all schools in Iwoland after the protests that
greeted the non-payment of WAEC fees by the government of the state
and had impressed it on the pupils during the tour to be of good
character.
