A
football enthusiast and a journalist SOLA
ISOLA has pen an open letter to Nigerians over the demise of former super
eagles coach, Stephen Keshi yesterday.
In the piece which he titled My
Thought on the demise of Keshi, he criticized Nigerians
hypocritical nature and habit of paying eye service or vague condolences to
lost hero.
THE statement reads;
The Big Boss as fondly called by many, Stephen Okechukwu Chinedu Keshi
passed away at around 3am while he was been taken to the hospital. It was been
said to be cardiac arrest but more to that, Keshi lost his wife last December
and we could agree then that he died of pains and agony of losing his wife of
35years.
Since Keshi died, loads of Nigerians started putting his picture as
their display picture (DP) on BBM, Whatsapp and other platforms. Then I ask myself,
do you mean to tell me that people love Keshi this much.
Just from 6am to 1pm
today i have seen and received close two hundred pictures of Keshi many calling
him legend and king. Of a truth, Keshi is a legend and true patriotic citizen
of Nigeria.
He was one of the few people that won the Africa Cup of Nation for
Nigeria as a player and as a coach. He was also the one who made us know the
politics and the game the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was playing with
Football and how they sit down in their office to decide who will play in a match
or not.
All this aside, just from this morning i have come to the conclusion
that Nigerians are hypocrites. I would never have imagined that Keshi was this
much loved.
When he was the coach of super eagles, he received insult, abuse and
curses from the people so much that i feel most people just thought he doesn't
do anything and that he just travels with the team.
What i keep asking myself
is, if keshi had all the qualities people are saying he has as a coach which am
sure he has, why not give him all the support he needed when he was the Coach
of super eagles?
We abused him, we insulted him, he won the AFCON, we said it was just by
chance and then he died we now begin to sing the song of great legend. What
manner of people are we?
My advice for us all is that we should always embrace what we have or
what is our own.
Theirs is a saying that we don't know what we have until we
loose it.
Now we have lost Keshi and we are now shouting "Great
Keshi". Great Keshi indeed!
Keshi, The Big Boss, you have written and crested your name in the heart
of Goodly, loving Nigerians and you will never be forgotten, neither will your
name be erased. Rest on Sir.
To move Nigeria forward we need to genuinely love each other and show
the love to all our neighbors.
God Bless the Federal Republic of
Nigeria.
