Fast rising Nigerian Singer & SongWriter "Ichaba" was a guest on #JamTrek powered by TOPUP9JA yesterday and he spoke on issues about his music career.
The Appe Music Entertainment act and DMW soldier who hail from Oyo state said during the interview that he was a former choir master before he decided to pursue his music career outside the church.

Q: Who is ICHABA?
ICHABA: My real name is Mayowa Olusanya.
Ichaba is a humble guy from Ibadan with a strong passion for music. I love music since I was a baby.
I actually started singing when I was 10 years old from my church choir.
Q: With this, it means you are a church boy?
ICHABA: lol I'm a full church boy o... "I was HOD/ choir master" when I was 14 in my church, Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG) Oluyole estate, oyo state.
Q: Like seriously?
ICHABA: Yea, that's the fact. I even owe a lot to my pastor, because my pastor always support and encouraged me.
Q: Lets look at the name #ICHABA, it doesn't really look churchy, so to speak. How did you come about the name?
ICHABA: Ichaba is actually my mum's name... I decided to use it as my stage name because people say I look like my mum and I like the name too... it's not a common name.
Q: Oh... #Mummy's boy!
ICHABA: Yes o... mummy's man!!
Q: So from singing in the choir to an Hip Pop Artist? What happened next? You changed style?
ICHABA: The choir doesn't pay that much so I had to start learning to make more popular and commercial songs with a message.
Q: What was your first attempt after leaving the church?
ICHABA: My first attempt was "Dasoro mii" which I dropped January this year with a video under APG.
Q: Going by the fact your pastor supported like u claimed earlier, would you like going back to church(Singing) if everything available outside the church is given to u in the church?
ICHABA: I still go to church o.
Only that I'm now in lagos so I can't go to my old church that often, and because I make commercial type of music doesn't mean I don't make music to honour and appreciate God.
Q: So what's the genre of your music or put simply, what type of music do you do?
ICHABA: My music is very diverse and that's something I think separates me from other artists.
I like to call my type of music "AFRO-ORIGINAL"
Q: AFRO ORIGINAL? Where do you got that from?
ICHABA: My style of music is a combination of my street, my religion, my passion, and my heritage.
Q: Street and religion! So many people believe that there is no religion in the street? Could this assertion be true?
ICHABA: False... whatever you worship is your religion... "even if na money na still religion."
My own religion is between me and my GOD...
Q: Away from religion, how did you get to APG?
ICHABA: APG is my family... I joined APG about a year after "Dremo"... Although I've known "Dremo" since my primary school.
Q: So #Dremo made things easy for you?
ICHABA: Me and dremo work well together... I made things easy for him, he made things easier for me... if you count the songs we have together it's probably over 100 tracks.
Q: 100 tracks? Are u kidding, joking or damn serious?
ICHABA: We work a lot... that's why we are so close... (me, dremo and fresh) can lock ourselves in the studio for days just making songs. No food for lazy man.
Q: So how did the 'DMW' deal comes in?
ICHABA: Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) is a partnership with my first record label APG...
Q: How did you feel when you learnt of the deal?
ICHABA: Well David has been a fan of my music for a while just like I've been a fan of his music too... so I was not too surprised to find that I would be signed to DMW.
But I was relieved because DMW is the biggest platform to be signed to in today's music industry.
Q: Q: So where do you see yourself in the next few years to come?
ICHABA: I don't know what the future holds, but I pray God takes me to the greatest height anyone in Africa has ever gone before...
