An official in the President's office has confirmed to reporters on thursday that Jihadist group Boko Haram has released 21 kidnapped Chibok girls to the government.
The Chibok girls were reported to have been an exchange for four Boko Haram prisoners in Banki, according to an offical of the Ministry of Information.
"It's true, the ministry of Information will release a statement on the issue later," the source told newsmen and this was as well confirmed to reporters by a local source stating the girls were exchanged for four Boko Haram prisoners in Banki, northeast Nigeria.
The identity of the girls has yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile in a twist of event the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has denied that the federal government swapped some Boko Haram prisoners for the 21 Chibok girls released by the terrorist group this morning.
He insisted it was a result of painstaking negotiation on the part of the Federal government "Please note that this is not a swap. It is a release, the product of painstaking negotiations and trust on both sides" he stated.
