NEWS:-APC, others reject outcome, say 'it is a sham'

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and other prominent opposition parties in Gombe state have rejected the outcome today's local government poll.
In a statement issued by the APC caretaker committee chairman, Idi Barde Gubana on Saturday, February 25, 2017, the parties alleged that the process was characterised by various irregularities.
They noted that while the process had been taken as People Democratic Party (PDP) affairs alone, election materials were massed up at the various Gombe State Independent Commission (GOSIEC) local government offices across the state.
The statement reads:
"You recall that the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) fixed the election for today, for which the people of the state had looked forward to with hope that at last freedom is knocking at their door steps.
"Recall also that in the history of the state, the people had never had it so bad; not with administration that inept, not focused and with the sole purpose of milking the state dry.
The people had therefore put their hope in the Local Government election.
"what is the situation on ground now? If anyone will deluge us that any genuine election is going on in the state, then we would rather go back to sleep believing we are day dreaming.

"There are 11 Local Government Area spread across 3 Senatorial Districts of Gombe South, North and Central.
"In two Senatorial Zones of Gombe South and Central, no election is going on; and this is authoritative.
As I speak to you now, election materials are still massed up at the various GOSIEC Local Government Offices. As I speak, our agents are still keeping vigil at those offices with the excuse from the scanty GOSIEC Officials on the ground that they were still waiting for result sheets.
"Again in Gombe which is in the Northern Senatorial Zone, while agents are still waiting at the GOSIEC Office to collect  materials, information reached us that election is on-going in some Polling Units to our utter dismay.
"In fact it is confirmed that the Governor voted at his Herwagana ward, Shehu Manzo 1 Unit this morning. Where the materials emanated from is a mystery to us. Our members had to be cautioned not to take laws into their hands.
"We issued this statement to alert the people of the sham of an election that we believe the government of the day will announce as being successful.
"We have issued this statement to let the people of the state know that any result declared in any part of the state should be seen as what it is, a fraud and nothing more than the sheet of paper it is written on."

POLITICS:-Corporation warns bidders to beware of fraudsters

The Group Executive Director, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Mele Kyari, has warned bidders of oil products to beware of fraudsters.
Kyari gave the warning to the 128 bidders of the 2017 Direct Sale Direct Purchase (DSDP) programme; a programme introduced in 2016 to replace crude-for-oil-products.
“The issues about fraudsters in this industry, particularly in crude oil and gas transactions are so enormous.
“Every day we receive some form of communication, people wanting to know if there is a group that wants to sell something to them.
“All kinds of things that we come across. For the avoidance of doubt, NNPC does not allocate off-spec crude. It does not exist.
“There is nothing like off-spec crude, which is what you see in many documents that are flying around,’’ Kyari warned.
He further warned that the corporation does not have joint crude oil and gas allocation with any company.
“Any company, no exception, NNPC does not do that. NNPC does not participate in spot allocation for now and it is also not involved in any cargo arrangements with anybody.
“These are the kind of documents you see flying around in the system and the people are duped.
“NNPC does not have any agent outside this building and indeed anywhere in the world. The only affiliate company we have, Duke Oil, is in London.
“Those who know, know where to find it. It is on electronic platform anybody can see it,’’ he said.
He lamented the gullibility of buyers, saying: “If l have a cargo of crude oil, the whole world would know.
“You don’t hide it; it is not kola-nut. You don’t do it at Transcorp Hotel. That is what is happening now, people selling crude oil in rooms in Hilton.
“At the end of the day they end up collecting $50,000; $100, 000 from very gullible people as processing fee after which they vanish.’’
Kyari said the new NNPC was transparent and accountable, and has no room for corruption in its operations.
He said DSDP simply meant selling crude in exchange for products and would optimise revenue for the Federal Government in compliance with its anti-corruption drive.
“l am happy to announce that in the last one year, the processes that we have put in place ensured that the products that we received were actually on the higher value than the value of the crude oil that we sold.
“We are very proud of this. This company is committed to make sure that there is availability of supply in our country,’’ he said.
Earlier, the Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services, Mr Isa Inuwa, said the NNPC had set a trend of complying with the public procurement law of due process in the selection of bidders to execute any of its projects.

Inuwa said this during the Invitation to Tender for pre-qualification of contractors for procurement, installation and commissioning of 4×4.687MVA and 1x635KVA dual engine generators.
He said the corporation was in search of the best supplier, installer and the best price on the basis of a transparent selection process.
He assured bidders that they would all receive equal consideration based on the NNPC criteria and entries made.
The General Manager, Supply Chain Management, Mrs Sophia Ndukwe, said 29 bids were submitted for the supply and installation of generators at the NNPC Towers.

OLUWO SET TO FLAG OFF 'OPERATION NO POTHOLE' IN IWOLAND

•OLUWO SAYS ZERO POTHOLES TO IWO-OSOGBO ROAD

In a way to compliment the laudable work of the state government of OSUN, the Oluwo of Iwoland is set to embark on the filling of the potholes along the Iwo-Osogbo road in continuation of his developmental strides according to a statement from the palace today.
The road that has been abandoned for years, has crippled the economy activities of Iwoland and other towns along the axis of the road.
According to the statement, the monarch said "The road which serve as the gateway to the OSUN state capital must be put into good shape. It must be in good condition.
We have to understand that self help is the best help. And even community works/engagement precede the advent of government" the statement reads.
He further stressed the fact that "Government can not do everything for the masses. There is need for the community to come around and compliment the activities of the government. Government can't do it alone."
Oba Akanbi however make a clarion call to different pressure group in the community to join hands with him for the success of the project
The statement said "This is to call all the various groups in Iwoland, the Christian Association of Nigeria, Isokan Muslimu of Iwoland, Tawun, The NURTW, RTEAN, Tippers Association, Okada Riders Association, Bricklayers Association, Quarry Association and all other groups to come out and support this project."
He has also fixed a take-off date for the commencement of the project of filling of the portholes along Iwo-Osogbo road which is set to "kick off on Saturday 15th of October, 2016 at exactly 8:00 am."
He further enjoined all sons and daughters of Iwoland to support the project while as well outlining the economic importance of the road "The importance of this road to the economy of IWO and the entire state of OSUN can not be overemphasized.
Let's come together and get this project done. Let's support this project with necessary materials and in person" he concluded.

Nigeria is celebrating her birthday today and formally clocks 56.

By 1900 they are already in Nigeria, in 1914 they amalgamate the southern and Northern protectorate.

The media office of the National leader of All Progressive Congress (APC) has refuted a purported publication where Asiwaju Bola Tinubu lambasted Buhari has been ingrate following the imbroglio that ensued after the party's primary election in ondo state where Tinubu preferred candidate was defeated.

The statement from his media office tagged the report as malicious and the handiwork of fifth columnist who are hell bent in destroying the relationship between the President and the former Governor.

The statement reads, "In the past 48 hours, we have noticed the churning out of falacious and outright malicious stories in the social media concerning Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

We want to state that the stories are patently false and we urge unsuspecting Nigerians to ignore the lies being spread and the wicked stories about what Tinubu purportedly said or did. The stories being churned out are being done by some fifth columnists who seek to drive a wedge between these leaders. One of such stories is the one entitled 'Tinubu Bombs Buhari,' which is fit only for the trash can and a figment of the writer's imagination.

Asiwaju Tinubu remains a staunch APC stalwart and supporter of the APC government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. Tinubu is preoccupied with assisting to find solutions to the present challenges now confronting us as a nation and nothing will distract him from doing this" the statement concluded.

This was the statement credited to Tinubu before his media office refuted it.

NEWS:-Buhari, Alaafin of Oyo Meet Over Boko Haram, Avengers.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met behind closed doors with
the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, at the Presidential Villa,
Abuja.

Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting,
the monarch said discussions at the meeting bordered on problems
facing the country including the militancy in the Niger Delta and
insurgency in the north.

Meanwhile the Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council
(NEPC), Olusegun Awolowo, has said Nigeria lost $30 billion in oil
revenue between 2014 and 2015,

He stated this in Abuja at the batch 3 graduation ceremony of 38 Zero

It's really disheartening confirming that a ""CONGO" of rice cost #600.

From the information I gathered, during Shagari regime when people

said goods are costly, Buhari administration even when it's clear the

economy is nose diving is worth Nigerian economy was thriving with

N1=$1 when Buhari took power on 31st December 1983.

In 4 months, it fell to N15=$1, 1500% inflation rate in 4 months. A

lot of other states but let me stop here.

In 8 months there was no food in Nigeria and the military issued

"Ration Cards" the sort of thing you see in war times, and people

queued for regulated food rations at co-operatives manned by military

personnel (at 4.5 times the price of the food items just 8 months

previously).

Buhari kept blaming Shagari's government just as they are blaming GEJ

today, forgetting that all these things were not happening just a few

months before during that government.

It got so bad that in another 12 months his military brothers have had

enough and IBB overthrew him in August 1985, by Xmas 1985, people were

celebrating properly already.

The economy had bounced back. People were reopening businesses. Food

was back in the markets. Co-operatives were closed again.

Spot the differences!!

So when they tell you the present situation is because of anyone else,

other than BUHARI, tell them it is a lie. He did the same "blame game"

in the 80s. Went to kidnap and bring back Umaru Dikko as if once he

collected that money, all problems are solved (ring a bell? Remember a

certain Dasuki).

I am not saying looters should not be brought to book, but then, just

as now, Buhari focused on the fanfare and propaganda of jailing

enemies and gunning for ONE man!!

He spent months, resources and power just trying to get Dikko, in the

meantime, he allowed the country to DIE!!! People lost their lives in

millions!! Millions more lost their homes, property, education,

everything!! Marriages broke up.

Those professors who had returned to Nigeria (BRAIN GAIN) either lost

their families because their expatriate wives returned home with or

without the children; or they relented and returned back to the

western world with their families (BRAIN DRAIN).

How was all that the Shagari government fault? If they were corrupt

and stealing money, but building the nation and the economy and people

were living well and growing in all aspects of life, why not, as the

SAINTLY MESSIAH that Buhari is, take over, continue the good works

while prosecuting and jailing the bad eggs? Why does the entire

populace have to be put through the meat grinder each time?

Picture this! You own a factory and make me the manager! I am running

it at a very good profit for you. The production and income keeps

growing. However, you hear from an incorruptible supervisor that I am

syphoning monies for myself. So what do you do? You take me off for

being corrupt and put that incorruptible person.

The factory DIES!! Business dries up. No more profits. Workers are

laid off. People start starving! AND YOU & YOUR NEW MANAGER KEEP

BLAMING ME!! (Note that "YOU" here are the Nigerian electorate while

the new manager is Buhari). Guess what? If another "IBB" overthrows

you tonight, in a matter of weeks, everything will be back to normal!

It is Buhari who is the killer of the nation. Quit blaming anyone else!!

Ben Uwajumogu of APC winner of Imo North Senatorial District rerun

election held on July 28.

Uwajumogu scored 56,076 votes to defeat Mr Athan Achonu of PDP who

Politics:> I have no governorship ambition – SGF

Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal, says he is not nursing the ambition to become governor of Adamawa State.

Lawal told newsmen in Yola on Saturday that the speculation was baseless, adding that at his age and position as SGF, it was not proper for him to think of serving as state governor in the future.

“At over 60 years of age and my position as SGF, I should not be thinking of being a governor; governorship should be left for younger people.”

Lawal also said he was not planning to sponsor a candidate for governorship of the state.

 

Lawal said, “The whole thing is funny; they are even saying that I favour my own tribe of Kilba in federal appointments because Boss Mustafa was recently appointed the Managing Director of Nigeria Inland Waterways Agency.

“People need to know that Mustafa is not only well qualified for the job but also a chieftain of the party who actively participated as an official in Buhari Campaign Organisation.

“Buhari knows Mustafa’s capacity and Buhari’s appointments are always based on merit.

“If they said I engineered the appointment of Mustafa because he is a Kilba man like me, how about other appointments of Adamawa indigenes that are not Kilba.

“Another funny thing is that in Abuja, some people are accusing me of favoring Adamawa.”

He urged Nigerians to shun rumours and politics of sentiments, adding that Buhari has good plans for Nigerian and was committed to positive transformation of the country.

Politics:> Government Has No Business Providing Land For Herdsmen– Dickson

Hon Tarkighir Dickson Dominic represents Makurdi/Guma federal constituency of Benue State. In this interview with Ruth Choji,  the lawmaker says  there is never a time in the country when herdsmen have to kill and maim  people like now.

The government seems to be slow in taking decisive action against Niger delta avengers, IPOB-MASSOB and Herdsmen/farmers clashes. What is your take on this?

Well, let’s take the issue of Niger delta avengers.  90 per cent of our earnings come from there. In my understanding, the zone has been treated fairly. They have 13 per cent derivation, NDDC, ministry of Niger/delta and the rest. No state in the north or middle belt gets up to that, some states get a little as two billion naira, yet these people are not holding their leaders who get the bulk of the money responsible or accountable for the underdevelopment in their region. Nigeria is not the only oil producing state in the world, but you don’t see the kind of criminality you see in the Niger delta. What is happening there is criminalism at its best. Government should be able to handle it. Government has to deploy a wide source of resources to tame them. They have sent some of them abroad, yet their people rise up every day to disrupt the flow of oil in the name of agitation. The unfortunate one which I am not satisfied with is the way the government is handling the Fulani/ farmers clashes, because I am a victim. They have attacked my community and killed my relatives, burnt down my house. I haven’t been able to fix it because every day you see them going back to attack communities, kill people and burn down houses. My state is an agrarian state and our economic stay is agriculture. We need to use our land to cultivate food. That is why we are the food basket of the nation. We are contending with Fulani herdsmen and government is doing nothing about it. Nobody has condemned the attacks on the middle belt and nothing is being done. You can equate what is happening in the zone in Benue to the menace of boko haram. Government has deployed troops in Niger delta, Kano and Sokoto against cattle rustlers yet they have failed to deployed troops in Benue, Taraba, Plateau and the rest where herdsmen are killing innocent farmers. Recently they invaded a community in the night in Logo local government of Benue state where they slaughter people. I have not heard the president condemn it. There has never been a time in this country where herdsmen have been embolden to kill and maim  people like right now.so that tells you that something is wrong. If the  government whose responsibility is to defend the citizens, leave the citizen to defend themselves, then you will see the proliferation of arms everywhere. That is why you see armed robbery in the south east.It is because of the civil war that people have access to arms after the war and started using it to do armed robbery.

But will the creation of grazing route solve the herdsmen and farmers problem?

There is nowhere in the world where people are talking about grazing routes. If you want to go that way, when that law was enacted in 1945 or so, the population was small but now, we are almost two hundred million people in populations. Zango of Kaduna state was a grazing route but now people have built estates there. That means that you need to uproot that community that was given a  grazing route. Abuja was a grazing route, so will you uproot Abuja and make it a grazing route? Cattle rearing is a personal business. Government has no business providing land for people who are doing their private business. You want to collect land from people who are doing poultry, piggery, and yam farming to give others to put their cattle. I have traveled to two counties that produce cattle and are the biggest exporters of beef, Brazil and Bulgaria. Their ranching system is good, they have laws and I copied their laws and brought it here. They have created a commission of cattle ranching and made laws that sanction those violating the laws. The FG has no basis to allocate land to people who are doing private business. The only thing they can do is give out loans to those who cannot afford the ranch. In Europe where you have cattle rearing, the milk in gallons and cheese are gotten from it and it is a big business, but here  cattle hardly produce five gallons of milk because of the way they travel all over with them. For the bill to go into effect, we need to amend the constitution because the 1999 constitution vest the administration of land to the states. The FG do not have the power to go into any community to take land. You cannot force any state to give land for grazing. My governor has said they do not have land for grazing activities. Land must be made available for agriculture. So nobody in Benue is willing to donate his land for grazing. If you want to buy land and somebody is willing to sell to you, then fine. They will sell it to you and you domicile your cattle in one place.

What is the state of IDPs in Benue State?

When the current state government came in, we had IDPs from other states which the state was taking care of and now, there is not enough resources to cater for them because the state has its own IDPs. We used to take care of those from other states effected by insurgence but now we have our own with the attacks from herdsmen. The government has been doing very well to ensure that the IDPs are taken care of but it is not enough. Government need to do more by creating basic amenities in IDPs camp.

As a member of the committee on Navy, can you say that they are properly taken care of?

Over the years there has been a depletion of the capacity on navy. But this government is doing a lot about that, we have provided some resources for the navy to acquire equipment that are able to put them in a position to defend our territory’s sovereignty.

Do we have enough personnel in the Navy?

No, but they will be recruiting this year, as much as the resources can allow them to recruit. Most of the equipment they have are made locally. We are looking inward to see if we will be able to build our own ships to Man our water ways and we think that,  going forward, the president has promised that all the armed forces will have enough capacity to defend this country

You are also in the National population committee, what is being done to check our population explosion?

As you are aware, we are having a census in 2017. That parastatal is important because that is the only way you can plan when you know the number of people you have.

Does Nigeria have the resources to carry out the census?

Yes, I think we do. We provided for that in the budget for them to start acquiring equipment. And their secretariat so that they can have a conducsive environment. Government will provide more money in 2017 budget for the censors. But we are also appealing to NGOs who are interested in assisting in that area. It is in the interest of stakeholders to ensure that we know how many we are in the country.

Some have accused the president of appointing more northerners in the government than other zones. Do you share such view?

When I hear that, I ask which north they are talking about. We gave him maximum votes yet the only appointment we have is the minister of Agriculture. So we are complaining in the north too. We have an APC government in Benue yet we don’t have people in the government. The people of Nigeria gave the president their mandate. I believe he is looking at people he feels are competent to carry out certain  assignments, but then you have the federal character in place, that is the only way people will see that you have carried out justice. Government is doing well in fighting corruption but when people see injustice, they definitely will not key into the program the government is bringing. So appointment must be made proportionally to the region.

Are you worried with the state of the economy?

Yeah, everybody should be worried. Things are not well but let’s not forget where we are coming from. The APC government inherited an economy that was already bastardized, oil revenues was down, the system was terrible. It will take time to build. You cannot built something that was destroyed in 10years in one year.

But does this government have the capacity to handle the economy?

Yes, but you must understand that a whole lot of things went wrong. The government got into power with the promised that they will fight corruption and that is what the president is doing. It is also seem to be putting the right people and policies in the right places. I believe we will see a Hugh light at the end of the tunnel.

Politics:> FG Plans to Borrow N165bn to Pay Civil Servants

Adeosun charges striking workers to find ways of increasing revenue

With fast declining revenue, the Federal Government said yesterday it is now faced with the prospect of borrowing to meet the monthly civil service wage bill of N165 billion.

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who had met with protesting workers of her ministry on Wednesday, said in a statement in Abuja yesterday that she does not have any power to pay N1.2 billion, which was not in the budget of the Ministry.

The minister said she had put all government departments to real squeeze in finances as the country grapples with the financial crisis inherited from previous administrations.

Pointing out that many people across the country are now struggling to find work, with some losing theirs, while civil servants in many states are not getting their salaries, the minister urged her ministry workers to be grateful for getting their salaries on consistent basis and work together to get the whole economy back on its feet.

At the meeting to reconcile all parties involved in the workers’ protest, it was agreed that the ministry’s management would meet with unions to consider the issues raised and map out ways to reach resolutions on of before today.

The minister had met with staff unions at the ministry on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing dispute over additional payments, where she urged them to present their grievances in a structured and articulated manner so that each issue would be formally presented and addressed on its merit.

While she expressed understanding for their demand for additional bonuses, based on their past dealings with the previous administration, she explained that she does not have any power to pay N1.2 billion, especially the one that is not in the budget.

The minister added that while government is determined to end the ongoing impasse over bonus and allowance with the workers, the labour unions should propose modalities that would increase revenue generation and structure to pay the bonuses.

Furthermore, Adeosun revealed that the Director of Administration has been ordered to review all the claims and present solutions for all legitimate claims relating to working materials and ensure that such claims are resolved immediately through the ministry’s processes.

According to Adeosun, the most important thing at the moment is for management and staff to get a common understanding of what the government needed to do to regain financial stability.

A reliable source from the ministry told our source that the minister warned of a grave impact on all Nigerians and consequent delay of the payment of June 2016 salary should there be a further lockout

Politics:> EFCC arrests ex- Kebbi governor over PDP campaign fund

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday in Kano arrested and detained former Governor of Kebbi State, Saidu Dakingari.

The ex-governor is being quizzed over his involvement in the sharing of N450 million Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign fund.

Also, he is been asked to explain how another N550 million state funds were diverted to the PDP during the 2015 presidential campaign.

The Head of Media for the EFCC in Kano State, Mr. Medard Ehimika, disclosed these in a statement on Friday afternoon.

The statement said the ex-governor is cooperating with EFCC operatives in their investigations.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPOINTS  GAYA AS DIRECTOR IN CHARGE OF ASCON.

The Federal Government  of Nigeria through the office of   head of civil service Mrs Winifred  oyo ita ,has approved the appointment of Mrs Cecilia Gaya,as the Director in charge of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria  ASCON.

The appointment was made public during the handing over ceremony held in the institution  complex auditorium  by the out going Director General Mr. Ajibade Peters on Friday 17 June 2016.

Mr Ajibade peters,in his speech, said that the resolution of the appointment was reached through a letter written to the head of civil service in other to request for the appointment of new director genral for the college which was jointly endorsed by senior staff in the institution.

His words"i called an executive meeting in other to seek for the opinions of who will be the next Director General of the institution after which files of all the directors was looked into and the whole body agreed to write letter through my office to the Head of service and the letter contains list of Six Directors and was signed by eleven directors in the institution ".

According to him," the names includes, Mrs Cecilia Gaya,J.A Obaoye,Bala Ibrahim and Mr.Afolabi".

Mr peter, maintained "in any leadership atmosphere transparency is important as God is waiting to reward every body".

In her acceptance speech, the new Director in charge of Ascon Mr Gaya,pleaded for the cooperation of the institution staff in other to achieve smooth run of the  citadel of learning.

Mrs Gaya ,also appreciated the head working spirit of the out going Director General  calling on him not to forget the college as he will always be called on so as to give need assistance to the college if the need ventures.
