By Tobiano
Three persons have been confirmed dead and 14 others injured in a ghastly motor accident along Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the early hours of Thursday.
The accident involved an LT commercial bus with registration number KRD 326 XG, carrying about 17 passengers and an articulated truck, without a registration number, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway inward toll gate by Con Oil filling Station.
Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed that the team received an alert via the 767/112 emergency toll free numbers and engaged other agencies, which include Lagos State Ambulance Services, Lagos State Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, LASTMA and the FRSC to the scene of accident .
The General Manager of LASEMA, Mr Michael Akindele, explained that investigation carried out by the rescue team at the scene of the incident revealed that the truck driver collided with the LT bus, which eventually led to the accident.
Mr Akindele included that the incident was apparently caused as a result of reckless driving from the truck driver.
Nine passengers sustained serious injuries, while five others sustained minor injuries and were immediately rushed down to the trauma centre by FRSC and LASAMBUS.
Three passengers (two male adults and a female adult) trapped inside the vehicles were found dead and extricated by the LASEMA Emergency Response Team.
The truck driver, suspected to have suffered from shock, was also taken to the trauma centre.
Mr Akindele however cautioned that motorists should avoid reckless driving and also ensure driving within the appropriate speed limit to prevent road traffic accident.
